MGB ROXIII Earth Month Celebration: A commitment to green living and susta...

In line with the 2016 Earth Month Celebration, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII conducted a two-day activity on April 28 and 29, 2016 to mark the occasion. With the theme “Trees for the Earth,” this year’s observance encourages partnership of people from all walks of life and intensifies environmental campaigns to grow trees in order to attain the goal of planting 7.8 billion trees by the year 2020. On the first day of the celebration, the MGB ROXIII Mine Safety, Environment and Social Development Division, in cooperation with the Gender and Development Focal Point System, conducted the Forum on the Promotion of Green Economic Development. MGB ROXIII and Appropriate Experts continue 2016 ASDMP cluster deliberatio...

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII, together with national line agencies and non-government organizations as Appropriate Experts, continued to deliberate over the 2016 Annual Social Development and Management Program (ASDMP) of Caraga mining companies on April 20 to 22, 2016 at the MGB Training Center in Surigao City. The deliberations of the ASDMP were done in cluster with the objective that there will be no duplication of Projects/Programs/Activities (PPAs) and double charging of PPAs to the mining companies with common communities.  On the same note, the cluster deliberations aim to promote transparency and social responsibility.  Four cluster deliberations were conducted last March 8 to 11, 2016. Training for MAVISSMA Small-Scale Miners with Trainers from APEX Mining Co....

In compliance to the MGB Programs/Projects/Activities (P/P/As) on Small-Scale Mining, a Training for Masabong Village Small-Scale Miners Association (MAVISSMA) on Rescue, Safety and Environmental Protection was conducted last April 20-22, 2016 at Sitio Masabong, Bayugan 3, Rosario, Agusan del Sur. The training was participated by 26 miners of MAVISSMA. The trainers composed of the Technical Personnel from Apex Mining Co., Inc. (AMCI) namely: Steve John Bagacay – Conventional Mining Eric Maningo – Conventional Mining Edu Seguerra – Rescue and Safety Induction Danilo P. Regis – Environmental Protection While the MGB-13 Training Facilitators are: Ana Diosell Soliven-Bajao, Economist-II Engr. Ernesto C. Calzar-Engr. II Carl Orven C. MGB ROXIII takes part in the 2016 Women’s Month Culminating Program

Personnel of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII took part in the 2016 Women’s Month Culminating Program spearheaded by the Regional Development Council – Gender and Development Coordinating Committee (RDC-GADCC) on March 31, 2016 at the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) grounds in Butuan City. With the theme “Kaayuhan ni Juana, I-apil sa Adyenda!,” this year’s Women’s Month celebration resonates the call for gender balance in leadership and decision-making positions in public and private sectors; inclusion of women’s concerns in leadership platforms and the government’s development agenda; and capacitating and preparing women and girls to fulfill their ambitions.  Various national line agencies and local government units participated in the event to support the advocacy concerning Filipino women. MGB ROXIII personnel attend Presentation of PCIEERD-funded Projects and Research Proposal Writeshop

Personnel of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII attended the presentation of the Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (PCIEERD)-Funded Projects cum Research Proposal Writeshop on March 9-11, 2016 at the Function Hall of the Department of Science and Technology Regional Office No. XIII in Ampayon, Butuan City. The three-day activity was a collaboration project between PCIEERD and the Eastern Mindanao Energy and Emerging Technology Research Alliance for Development (EMIEERALD). It was an incorporation of the presentation of the PCIEERD-funded projects and writeshop of research proposals for possible PCIEERD-funded projects for FY 2017. In his message, the DOST R-XIII ARD for Technical Division, Mr. Ricardo N. Regional Development Council endorses FY 2017 Budget Proposals of MGB ROXIII, Regional Line Agencies and State Colleges and Universities

The Regional Development Council of Caraga endorsed the FY 2017 Budget Proposals of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII, regional line agencies and state colleges and universities during the 86th Regional Development Council Meeting on March 2, 2016 at the National Economic and Development Authority Conference Room in Butuan City. The full council meeting was presided by Surigao del Norte Provincial Governor Sol F. Matugas in her capacity as Regional Development Council Chairperson.  The RDC Vice Chairperson, NEDA Caraga Regional Director Mylah Faye Aurora B. Cariño, presented the 2016 Regional Development Council Work and Financial Plan. Director Cariño also presented the Analysis of the Budget of Caraga Region for the past three years and the FY 2017 Caraga RDC Budget Review Process. MGB ROXIII and various national line agencies celebrate Blue Day

In observance of the 2016 National Women’s Month with the theme “An Karajawan ni Juana, Ilakip sa Adyenda!,” personnel from the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII celebrated Blue Day on March 8, 2016 at the Surigao City Boulevard. Bringing with them festive blue balloons, representatives from various national line agencies participated in the said activity. The significance of the event is to promote the advocacy as it raises the level of public awareness of gender-related issues and appreciation for women’s contributions to society. The activity started with a fun walk from the City Hall compound down to the City Boulevard in front of the City Police Station where a short program was held. Dr. Arlene T. MGB ROXIII joins 12th Women’s Month Kalandrakas

In keeping with the 2016 National Women’s Month Celebration, personnel of theMines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII joined the 12th Kalandrakas on March 8, 2016 at Balanghai Hotel & Convention Center in Butuan City. With the theme “Kaayuhan ni Juana, I-apil sa Adyenda!,” the event was spearheaded by the Gender and Development Coordinating Council Committee (GADCC) under the Regional Development Council of Caraga with the support of national line agencies and local government units.  Ms. Edna S. Hontiveros, Vice Chair of the RDC-GADCC, delivered a message to welcome all guests and participants. Her message primarily focused on the contributions of women in society with emphasis on social issues that still need to be addressed. Atty. Allen M. THPAL Nickel Corporation conducts Public Consultation for its Scandium Recovery Project

Taganito HPAL Nickel Corporation conducted a public consultation for its proposed Scandium Recovery Project on March 4, 2016 at the Taganito Sports and Cultural Center in Claver, Surigao del Norte. The company conducted the said consultation in cooperation with its Environmental Impact Assessment Preparer, Philkairos, Inc., and the Environmental Management Bureau.  Representatives from the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII, Parish Pastoral Council and Reach Foundation were also present as observers. The residents of Brgys. Urbiztondo, Taganito, Hayanggabon and Cagdianao in the Municipality of Claver, Surigao del Norte took part in the activity. The proposed Scandium (Sc) Recovery Facility will cover 1.4 hectares of land within the present THPAL area. It will utilize the barren liquor that may contain traces of scandium, iron, aluminum and chromite, which is presently discarded as waste from the high pressure acid leaching process.
