MGB RXIII Geologists attend 2017 National Quadrangle Geological Mapping Wor...

A team of geologists from the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII attended the 2017 National Quadrangle Geological Mapping Workshop on February 5-11, 2017 at Ninong’s Hotel in East Washington, Legazpi City. The said workshop was hosted by the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. V. Mr. Romeo M. Dalodado, Chief Geologist; Melvin A. Mantilla, Supervising Geologist; Janeth S. Aparri, Geologist II; and Ralph Angelo B. Plaza, Geologist II of the MGB RXIII Geosciences Division participated in the workshop. The first day was set for the deliberation, review and editing of the Geologic Quadrangle Maps of Region III. On the second day, lecturers discussed the geology of CALABARZON and Bicol Region. MGB leads the way in capacitating Caraga MRFCs and MMTs

In order to upgrade the capability of the Mine Rehabilitation Fund Committees (MRFCs) and Multipartite Monitoring Teams (MMTs) in evaluating and monitoring the mandatory environmental and social compliances of mining operations as required by law, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII, in partnership with the Caraga Mine Environmental Management Council (CMEMC), spearheaded the MRFC and MMT Capacity Enhancement Seminar on January 26-27, 2017 at the Philippine Gateway Hotel in Surigao City. Large-scale mining companies in the region have been in operation for more than a decade.  Correspondingly, MRFCs and MMTs have carried out their functions for that same length of time. Of these years, significant changes in the practices and operations of the mining industry have been observed in which the MGB has deemed it necessary to capacitate and enhance the existing capabilities of the evaluating and monitoring bodies. To ensure the substantial and timely validation of the performance of the mining companies in compliance with DENR Administrative Order (DAO) No. 2015-02, the Multipartite Monitoring Team of every company is required to craft a standardized Manual of Operations (MOO) subject to the approval of both Regional Directors from MGB and EMB and to be formally endorsed by Caraga Region’s Mine Rehabilitation Fund Committee (MRFC). This mandate gave rise to the unified MRFC Meeting conducted by the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII, in coordination with the Caraga Mine Environment Management Council (CMEMC), on January 17-18, 2017 at the Gateway Hotel in Surigao City. MGB RXIII holds Cross-Sectoral Forum on Social Development and Management Program

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII in coordination with the Community Relations, Education and Development Officers, Inc. (CREDO Caraga, Inc.) conducted the Cross-Sectoral Forum on Social Development and Management Program on January 12, 2017 at the Gateway Hotel in Surigao City. With the theme “SDMP for Integrated Sustainable Development,” the forum was attended by various stakeholders from mining companies, local government units, national line agencies, non-government organizations and the media. The forum commenced with an opening ceremony wherein the Officer-in-Charge of the MGB RXIII Mine Safety, Environment and Social Development Division, Engr. Francis Glenn N. Suante, acknowledged and welcomed the participants with inspiring words. The MGB RXIII Regional Director, Engr. Roger A. De Dios, delivered the opening message and gave an overview of the Social Development and Management Program /Community Development Plan Policy Direction.  Dir. Caraga mining companies gain various distinctions at the 63rd Annual National Mine Safety and Environment Conference

Caraga mining companies gained various distinctions at the 63rd Annual National Mine Safety and Environment Conference (ANMSEC) on November 15-18, 2016 in Baguio City. A yearly event that highlights the minerals industry’s commitment to the promotion of sustainable development and proactive responsibility towards safety, environment and social development, the Annual National Mine Safety and Environment Conference is organized by the Philippine Mine Safety and Environment Association (PMSEA) in collaboration with the DENR-Mines and Geosciences Bureau.  The event also gave prominence to best practices and relevant innovations in the minerals industry. 18th Annual Technical Forum: An affirmation of MGB’s continuous pursuit of knowledge and professional development

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau conducted the 2016 Annual Technical Forum with the theme “The Mineral Industry and The Geosciences: Challenges and Opportunities in the Changing Times” on November 10-12, 2016 at the Widus Hotel in Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga. This year’s forum was hosted by MGB Regional Office No. III headed by OIC/Regional Director Lope O. Cariño, Jr.  Marking its 18th year, the said event is the first ever technical forum to be conducted outside Metro Manila. As the keynote speaker, Regional Executive Director Israel C. Gaddi talked about his work stint at the Mines and Geosciences Bureau. He challenged the participants to preserve their dignity and integrity as MGB employees. MGB conducts the Strategic Planning for the 2018 MGB GAD Work Plan and Budget and Orientation on Basic Concepts on Gender and Development

In line with the Gender and Development goals embodied in the Magna Carta of Women, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau conducted the Strategic Planning for the 2018 Mines and Geosciences Bureau GAD Work Plan and Budget and Orientation on Basic Concepts on Gender and Development on September 26 to 30, 2016 at the Camelot Hotel in Quezon City, Metro Manila which was attended by GAD representatives of MGB Central Office and Regional Offices. The first day of the activity commenced with an opening ceremony wherein the participants were acknowledged by the MGB Central Office. MGB ROXIII carries on with its Groundwater Resources Assessment Program

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII conducted the Groundwater Resources Assessment on September 13 to October 8, 2016 in the Municipalities of San Miguel, Bayabas, Cantilan and Carrascal in Surigao del Sur. A team of geologists and geologic mappers from the Geosciences Division of MGB ROXIII was divided into two groups to conduct Groundwater Resources Assessment in all 56 barangays of the four aforementioned municipalities. Aside from well inventory, the team surveyed every water source in each barangay. Water source can be a well or a spring. General information like geology and geomorphology of the area was noted.  Similarly, the well construction data such as well usage, well type, drilling method and pump type as well as the spring and the rock type data were taken during the survey. MGB ROXIII conducts Vulnerability and Risk Assessment in Esperanza and Veruela, Agusan del Sur

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII conducted the Vulnerability and Risk Assessment (VRA) on September 19 to October 14, 2016 in the Municipalities of Esperanza and Veruela in the Province of Agusan del Sur. A team of geologists and geologic mappers from the Geosciences Division of MGB ROXIII was divided into three groups to conduct the Vulnerability and Risk Assessment (VRA) in all barangays of the two aforementioned municipalities. On September 19, 2016, the team paid a courtesy call on the Local Government Unit (LGU) – Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) and the Office of the Mayor of Esperanza to inform them that the MGB ROXIII team will conduct the Vulnerability and Risk Assessment. The Barangay LGU and the MGB ROXIII team also discussed the survey schedule. Minor problems encountered during the survey were the transportation and accessibility of roads in distant sitios.
