MGB RXIII and CMEMC spearhead 2018 Environment Month Culminating Activities...

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII, in partnership with the Caraga Mine Environmental Management Council (CMEMC), spearheaded the 2018 Environment Month Culminating Activities of Caraga minerals industry on June 28-29, 2018 at St. Paul University Surigao Gymnasium. The said event aimed to intensify public awareness of environmental preservation and instill in the participants from mining companies and host communities a sense of accountability as stewards of the environment. The theme of this year’s Environment Month Celebration is Beat Plastic Pollution: If You Can’t Reuse It, Refuse It!  It underscores the urgency to take concrete steps to slow the flow of plastic at its source and to improve the way we manage our plastic waste that ends up in rivers which serve as direct conduits of trash from the world’s cities to the marine environment. MGB RXIII carries out Groundwater Resource Mapping and Assessment in Surig...

In line with the National Groundwater Resource Mapping and Assessment Program of the DENR-Mines and Geosciences Bureau, a technical team from the Geosciences Division of MGB Regional Office No. XIII carried out the Groundwater Resource Mapping and Assessment from June 25 to July 4, 2018 in Surigao City. The said project was undertaken in coordination with the personnel from Surigao City Environment and Natural Resources Office, Surigao City Engineering Office and Surigao Metropolitan Water District. Surigao del Norte is one of the target provinces of MGB RXIII for the said project this CY 2018. Earlier this year, the mapping project was conducted in other municipalities of Surigao del Norte which include Alegria, Bacuag, Burgos, Claver, Dapa, Del Carmen, General Luna, Gigaquit, Mainit, Pilar, Placer, San Benito, San Francisco, San Isidro, Santa Monica, Sison, Socorro, Tagana-an and Tubod. MGB RXIII takes part in 2018 Sylvatrop Writing Workshop

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII took part in the 2018 Sylvatrop Writing Workshop on June 19-22, 2018 at the Orchid Garden Suites in Malate, Manila. The workshop was organized by the DENR-Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau (ERDB). Sylvatrop is the technical journal of Philippine Ecosystems and Natural Resources.  It is a medium of information exchange on scientific, technological and descriptive articles, research notes and reviews of technical literatures on ecosystems and natural resources topics. The journal is published once a year and has produced more than 480 articles on environment and natural resources since 1976. MGB RXIII, CREDO and PSEM hold Press Conference in Surigao City

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII, in cooperation with the Community Relations, Education & Development Officers Organization (CREDO Caraga), Inc. and the Philippine Society of Mining Engineers, held a press conference on June 14, 2018 at the Philippine Gateway Hotel in Surigao City. The activity aimed to heighten public awareness of MGB’s environmental mandates and best practices of Caraga minerals industry in keeping with the 2018 Environment Month Celebration.  It also aimed to inform the public of the Mining Engineers’ Convention 2018 and its various activities in consonance with the PSEM and the mining stakeholders’ communal pursuit towards a revitalized minerals industry. MGB RXIII and PSEM serve as coastal stewards in Brgy. San Juan, Surigao City

In keeping with the 2018 Mining Engineers’ Convention and Environment Month Celebration, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII and the Philippine Society of Mining Engineers served as coastal stewards on June 14, 2018 in Brgy. San Juan, Surigao City. A coastal cleanup was MGB RXIII and PSEM’s immediate response to current overwhelming problems in plastic pollution and waste management. Not just your average pick-up-that-dirt-by-the-seashore activity, the said cleanup was participated by 254 people comprising MGB RXIII personnel, PSEM members, MinECon delegates, Caraga mining company employees and members of Brgy. MGB RXIII joins DENR Caraga’s Environment Month and Philippine Eagle’s Week Celebrations

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII is one with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Caraga Regional Office in the celebrations of the Environment Month and Philippine Eagle’s Week during the Kick-off Activity on June 4, 2018 in Butuan City. The theme of the 2018 Environment Month is Beat Plastic Pollution: If you can’t reuse it, refuse it while the theme of the Philippine Eagle’s Week is Ipagdiwang ang Pagkakaisa para sa Malayang Agila.  The Environment Month Celebration covers the period of June 1-30, 2018 while the Philippine Eagle’s Week Celebration is from June 4-10, 2018. MGBEA holds Employees Performance Management, Welfare and Development Workshop and 16th Annual National MGBEA Convention

In its continuing effort to strengthen its commitment to provide assistance and protect the welfare of its members pursuant to the 2017 MGBEA-MGB Collective Negotiations Agreement, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Employees’ Association held the Employees Performance Management, Welfare and Development Workshop on May 28 to June 1, 2018 at Brentwood Suites in Quezon City with the theme “Sa Malusog at Maunlad na Kawani, Epektibong Serbisyo Publiko ay Madali” in conjunction with the 16th Annual National MGBEA Convention.  At the event, two Resource Speakers from the Civil Service Commission presented the Study on the Implementation of the Economic and Non-Economic Benefits in the Collective Negotiation Agreement and Public Sector Unionism. The implementation of the Three (3) Year Strategic Plan of the 2017-2020 MGBEA-MGB Collective Negotiations Agreement was discussed during the plenary. Rep. Ciriaco “Acoy” S. MGB RXIII and CREDO capacitate Community Relations Officers of Caraga minerals industry

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII, in cooperation with the Community Relations, Education and Development Officers Organization (CREDO) Caraga, Inc., conducted the two-day SDMP Capacity Enhancement Seminar for the Community Relations Officers in Caraga on May 30 to 31, 2018 at the Philippine Gateway Hotel in Surigao City. Community Relations Officers and community organizers of mining companies and processing plants, together with the Social Development Section personnel of MGB RXIII, actively took part in the activity.  The training was facilitated by Dr. Rolando Cuaño and Ms. Marita Cuaño of BMP Environment and Community Care, Inc. in response to the program of Regional Director Roger A. De Dios to capacitate the Social Development and Management Program workforce of mining companies and processing plants together with the Mines and Geosciences Bureau as the regulatory agency. MGB RXIII chemists rise to the challenges of 33rd Philippine Chemistry Congress

Rising to Challenges (RCh) is the theme of the 33rd Philippine Chemistry Congress which was held on May 30-June 1, 2018 at the Philippine International Convention Center in Roxas Boulevard, Manila. The theme is not only a fitting abbreviation for registered chemists (RCh) but it intrinsically expresses the spirit of the present-day chemistry community that uses chemistry as a key to unlock the solutions to many challenges. Two chemists from the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII joined over a thousand professionals, participants, researchers and paper presenters from the chemical industry and the academe as well as policymakers and leaders from government partner institutions in the annual gathering of chemists which has been in existence for thirty-three years.
