Meeting about the Extraction Area of Agata Mining Ventures, Inc.

A meeting was conducted last Februray 9, 2016 at MGB-13 Training Center to address the Barangay Resolution No. 2015-09 from Barangay Lawigan, Tubay, Agusan del Norte. A resolution inquiring the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII of the present and actual location of ore extraction of Agata Mining Ventures, Inc. (AMVI). It was presided by RD Alilo C. Ensomo, Jr. and attended by DENR PENRO Bello Udarbe and CENRO Barlou M. Aparte of Tubay Anthony B. Quijano – AMVI General Manager and staff, Hon. Jimmy L. Beray – Vice Mayor of Tubay, and a Councilor, Punong Barangay Nilo G. Mordeno and barangay council of Lawigan, Punong Barangay Dante C. Mandam and barangay council of Tinigbasan, Tubay, Agusan del Norte, and the MGB-13  technical and support staff. AMVI only indicated Brgy. Regional Director’s Meeting with the Mine Managers

Regional Director’s meeting with the Mine Managers in Caraga Region was conducted in January 27, 2016 at MGB R-13 Training Center. RD Alilo C. Ensomo, Jr. was ordered to be reassigned in MGB Regional Office No. XIII by the DENR Secretary in December 29, 2015. He was assigned in MGB Region-10 in Year 2012 and October of the same year he was transferred to MGB Region-8. In 3-year period of CY2012-2015, new policies had been issued. To gather the opinion of the mine managers relative to the policy implementations of the Office, a meeting was called by RD Ensomo which was attended by the managers/executives of all the operating and under exploration mining companies in Caraga Region. Presented during the meeting were: 1. Regulatory and reportorial requirements, 2. 2015 Presidential Mineral Industry Environmental Award (PMIEA), 3. Caraga mining companies received accolades at the 62nd Annual National Mine Safety and Environment Conference (ANMSEC) with the theme of “62 Years of Responsible Mining: United in Creating Relevant Development for Inclusive Growth” on November 17-20, 2015 in Baguio City. The Annual National Mine Safety and Environment Conference is a yearly event that highlights the minerals industry’s commitment to the promotion of sustainable development and proactive responsibility towards safety, environment and social development.  The event is organized by the Philippine Mine Safety and Environment Association (PMSEA) in collaboration with the DENR-Mines and Geosciences Bureau.  In celebration of 62 years of mine safety, the event also accentuated best practices and remarkable innovations in the minerals industry. MGB holds 2015 Annual Technical Forum

The DENR-Mines and Geosciences Bureau held its 2015 Annual Technical Forum on November 12 to 14, 2015 at One Tagaytay Place Hotel Suites in Tagaytay City. With the theme of “Issues and Challenges Towards Innovations in Geosciences and the Mineral Industry,” the forum started with a program wherein MGB Director Leo L. Jasareno delivered his opening remarks. In his message, Dir. Jasareno challenged and encouraged everyone to undertake continuous learning and establish a bureau that is a ‘manufacturing plant’ of expert scientists. “The 2015 Annual Technical Forum is part of the process of sustaining this sharing of information. I look forward to the next forum where I think we will just put our hearts into it that an academy maybe emplaced in the next two years for the first time. MGB R13 Employees Multi-Purpose Cooperative celebrates 2015 Cooperative Month

Cooperative Month is annually celebrated in the month of October. Year 2015 marks the centennial celebration of the cooperative movement in the Philippines with the theme, “KOOPERATIBA: Ika-100 Taong Pagpupugay, Tulay sa Maunlad Na Buhay.” The Mines and Geosciences Bureau 13 Employees Multi-Purpose Cooperative (MGB 13 EMPC) is almost 17 years in existence.  It is working for the welfare of its members by providing financial assistance through loans, goods and other services at reasonable cost to MGB 13 personnel. As a result, it has helped uplift the quality of life of its members. As of 2014, the MGB 13 EMPC has 37 active members. MGB R13 personnel attend SMMCI Public Hearing

Personnel of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau ROXIII attended the Public Hearing conducted by Silangan Mindanao Mining Company, Inc. (SMMCI) on October 14, 2015 at the Municipal Gymnasium in Tubod, Surigao del Norte. As one of the steps included in Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process, the public hearing is a requirement in SMMCI’s application for an Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) for their Silangan Copper-Gold Project. Representatives from different government agencies like Department of Agrarian Reform, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of Education, National Commission on Indigenous Peoples and local government units (LGUs) were present. Similarly, the concerned residents of the impacted barangays of the said project participated in the gathering to listen and express their opinions and insights. MGBEA R13 Officers attend the GSIS Public Sector Unions’ Consultation

Officers of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Employees Association (MGBEA) Caraga Chapter attended the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS)-Public Sector Union’s Consultation on October 20, 2015 at the Philippine Gateway Hotel, Surigao City.  It was attended by representatives of the National Line Agencies, and Local Government Units within Surigao del Norte. Atty. Jason C. Teng, GSIS Acting-Vice President for Mindanao presented the updates on GSIS policies and programs.  He discussed the institutionalizing reforms undertaken by GSIS to provide a more responsive service to members and pensioners. He cited that the new GSIS is more transparent, more consultative and more members focused. Reforms for Pensioners: GSIS restored the survivorship benefit of surviving spouses even if they are gainfully employed or receiving income or pension from other institutions. PSEM Caraga Chapter conducts oath taking and induction ceremonies

The Philippine Society of Mining Engineers (PSEM) Caraga Chapter, in coordination with the Professional Regulation Commission, sponsored the oath taking ceremony of new Mining Engineers and Certified Mine Foremen on October 2, 2015 at Hotel Tavern in Surigao City. MGB R13 supports 2015 Division Science Quest, Fair, Quiz, Yes-O and Training Camp

Personnel of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII supported the 2015 Division Science Quest, Fair, Quiz, Yes-O and Training Camp on September 30 to October 4, 2015 at the Surigao del Norte National High School in Surigao City. With the theme “Quality Science Education: A Key to Developing Resilient Schools and Communities,” the event started with a program at the Provincial Convention Center where Mr. Romeo M. Dalodado, MGB ROXIII Geosciences Division Chief, delivered a message which pulsated with wisdom, inspiration and vitality. The Agusan River Basin Summit was held on September 3 to 4, 2015 at Almont Inland Resort in Butuan City. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Caraga Regional Office and the Mindanao Development Authority ﴾MinDA) led the summit.  All stakeholders from Compostela Valley, Davao Oriental, Bukidnon, Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur and Butuan City actively participated in the two-day summit.The Agusan River Basin Summit was held on September 3 to 4, 2015 at Almont Inland Resort in Butuan City.
