The Gender and Development Focal Point System of Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII conducted a mangrove planting activity on March 22, 2017 in Brgy. San Isidro, Surigao City in keeping with the 2017 World Water Day Celebration. With the theme “Wastewater,” this year’s celebration centers on wastewater and ways to reduce and reuse it as over 80% of all wastewater from our homes, cities, industry and agriculture that flows back to the environment results in pollution and loss of nutrients. This calls for the need to improve the collection, treatment and safe reuse of wastewater. Similarly, the reduction of the quantity and pollution load of wastewater we produce is strongly encouraged in order to help protect the environment and our water resources. The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Employees Association (MGBEA) Caraga Chapter conducted a stress debriefing session on March 20, 2017 at the MGB RXIII Training Center in Surigao City. The said activity was aimed at helping all MGB RXIII employees who were affected by the magnitude-6.7 earthquake that hit Surigao City on February 10, 2017 and the series of aftershocks that followed. Ms. Maria Rosana M. Enano, a Nurse from the Provincial Health Office – Surigao del Norte (PHO-SDN), gave a lecture about stress debriefing and its importance to each individual. After the lecture, the employees were grouped into four for sharing and reflection.The main objective of the activity was to give each participant a chance to share his/her experience during the earthquake. In his first State of the Nation Address (SONA), President Rodrigo Roa Duterte directed “all agencies, oversight bodies and local government units down to the barangay level to fully implement the Magna Carta of Women” in order to ensure that man and woman will be partners in the pursuit of the country’s economic, social, cultural and political developments. A team of geologists from the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII attended the 2017 National Quadrangle Geological Mapping Workshop on February 5-11, 2017 at Ninong’s Hotel in East Washington, Legazpi City. The said workshop was hosted by the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. V. Mr. Romeo M. Dalodado, Chief Geologist; Melvin A. Mantilla, Supervising Geologist; Janeth S. Aparri, Geologist II; and Ralph Angelo B. Plaza, Geologist II of the MGB RXIII Geosciences Division participated in the workshop. The first day was set for the deliberation, review and editing of the Geologic Quadrangle Maps of Region III. On the second day, lecturers discussed the geology of CALABARZON and Bicol Region.
