MGB conducts Training on Networking and Finalization of the Information Sy...

In connection with the MGB Net Project of the Information System Section under the supervision of Planning, Policy and International Affairs Division implemented in June 2017, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau conducted the Training on Networking and Finalization of the Information System Strategic Plan (ISSP) 2018-2020 with the theme “One IT, One Network, and One MGB” on July 17-21, 2017 at Brentwood Suites in Quezon City which was attended by Regional ICT Focal Persons and IT Specialists. The training started with a short program wherein the Assistant Director, Atty. Danilo U. Uykieng, welcomed the participants with inspiring words which envisioned the theme of One IT, One Network, and One MGB. It was then followed by the opening remarks of Engr. Glenn Marcelo C. MGB RXIII leads 2017 Environment Month Celebration of Caraga minerals indu...

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII led the 2017 Environment Month Celebration of the Caraga minerals industry. MGB RXIII, in cooperation with the Caraga Mine Environmental Management Council and the Community Relations, Education & Development Officers Organization (CREDO), Inc., conducted a four-day Information, Education and Communication Caravan in select areas within Caraga Region which culminated in a Press Conference in Butuan City. The theme of this year’s celebration is “Connecting People to Nature” which encourages us to think about how we are part of nature and how we independently depend on it. In line with the theme, the caravan aimed to educate people from non-mining communities how the minerals industry plays its role in the utilization of vast mineral resources and the efforts made by mining companies to give back to nature measures for protection and enhancement and social development. MGB RXIII conducts Geologic Quadrangle Mapping in Bicol Region

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII conducted the Geologic Quadrangle Mapping on May 2 to June 11, 2017 in Bicol Region. A team of three geologists and one GIS Operator from MGB RXIII conducted the Geologic Quadrangle Mapping in two quadrangles, namely Polangui and Ligao. The Polangui Quadrangle comprises five municipalities and one city ‒ Balatan and Bato, Camarines Sur and Libon, Polangui, Oas, and Ligao City, Albay. On the other hand, the Ligao Quadrangle has 7 municipalities and 3 cities ‒ Polangui, Oas, Guinobatan, Camalig, Daraga, Santo Domingo, Malilipot, Ligao City, Legazpi City and Tabaco City. The updating of Polangui Quadrangle which has an unpublished geologic map was done on the first phase of the fieldwork (May 2-May 19). The team subsequently proceeded to work on Ligao Quadrangle on the second phase of the fieldwork (May 22-June 11). MGB RXIII carries on with its Coastal Geohazard Assessment

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. 13 carried on with its Coastal Geohazard Assessment under the National Geohazard Assessment and Mapping Program. For the first quarter of 2017, the target municipalities of MGB RXIII are Barobo, Lianga, Hinatuan and Bislig in the Province of Surigao del Sur. As for the second quarter, the Municipality of Del Carmen in the Province of Surigao del Norte was assessed on May 31 to June 7, 2017. The Municipality of Socorro in the Province of Surigao del Norte will be assessed by the third week of June 2017. The Philippines has one of the longest coastlines in the world with an estimated extent of 36,289 kilometers. Approximately 46% of the total population in the Philippines resides in coastal areas, directly or indirectly relying on coastal resources as source of livelihood, habitation, and recreation. MGB RXIII Chemists take part in 32nd Philippine Chemistry Congress

Chemists from the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII took part in the 32nd Philippine Chemistry Congress on May 31 to June 2, 2017 at the Asturias Hotel in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan. The theme of this year’s congress is “Chemistry. Changes. Choices.” Department of Science and Technology Secretary Fortunato T. Dela Peña delivered the Keynote Speech. Approximately a thousand participants attended the event which aims to provide a stimulating setting and a chance to engage chemistry scholars and practitioners in the latest developments in the field, thus enabling them to pursue wise and good choices that will effect positive changes in society. During the event, the participants were able to realize their capabilities to spur changes and make worthy choices with full utilization of the potentials of chemistry in bringing about social transformation and economic progress. MGB RXIII conducts Vulnerability and Risk Assessment

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. 13 is currently conducting the Vulnerability and Risk Assessment (VRA) under the National Geohazard Assessment and Mapping Programme. For the first quarter of 2017, the target municipalities of MGB RXIII are Magallanes and Las Nieves in the Province of Agusan del Norte. As for the second quarter, the Municipalities of Sibagat and Sta. Josefa in the Province of Agusan del Sur were assessed last April until the second week of May. For the rest of May until June, MGB RXIII will conduct VRA in the Municipalities of San Miguel and Tago in the Province of Surigao del Sur. The Vulnerability and Risk Assessment is an activity following the 1:10,000 Scale Geohazard Mapping and Assessment which was concluded in 2015. MGB RXIII conducts Groundwater Resource and Vulnerability Assessment

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII conducted Groundwater Resource and Vulnerability Assessment from January to April 2017 in four (4) municipalities of Agusan del Norte and Province of Dinagat Islands. MGB RXIII joins the conduct of CY 2017 1st Quarter National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII joined the conduct of the CY 2017 1st Quarter National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) on March 31, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. The primary purpose of the earthquake drill is to test the response capacity and capability of MGB RXIII employees to earthquake incidents. Mr. Romeo M. Dalodado, MGB RXIII Geosciences Division Chief, gave a brief presentation on “How to Conduct an Earthquake Drill” that serves as a guide for employees to what should be done before, during and after an earthquake.  He also discussed the different stages in conducting the earthquake drill which include Planning/Organizing an Earthquake Drill, Developing the Earthquake Evacuation Plan, Orientation Prior to the Conduct of an Earthquake Drill and Actual Conduct of an Earthquake Drill.  Since the earthquake drill is performed quarterly every year, Mr. Dalodado reminded the employees of the established evacuation route and muster point/assembly continue reading : MGB RXIII joins the conduct of CY 2017 1st Quarter National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill

MGB RXIII conducts Training-Workshop on the Processing and Area Verification of Industrial/Commercial Sand and Gravel and Quarry Applications

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII conducted the Training-Workshop on the Processing and Area Verification of Industrial/Commercial Sand and Gravel and Quarry Applications on March 30-31, 2017 at the MGB Training Center in Surigao City. The Mineral Lands and Survey Section under the Mine Management Division organized the training-workshop. Twenty-one representatives from Caraga PENROs, CENROs and LGUs participated in the said activity. Regional Director Roger A. De Dios delivered the welcome address and presented the rationale of the training-workshop.  He assured the audience that proper guidelines on the process/conduct of area verification will be met at the end of the activity. MGB RXIII and CREDO hold 1st Quarterly Press Conference

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII, in cooperation with the Community Relations, Education & Development Officers (CREDO) Inc., held the 1st Quarterly Press Conference on March 31, 2017 at the Philippine Gateway Hotel in Surigao City. The press conference aimed to heighten public awareness of the current state of the Caraga minerals industry.  It also aimed to foster the participation of and dialogue between the media and the mining stakeholders in achieving the common goals of responsible mining, ecological sustainability and social development. MGB RXIII and CREDO also hoped to forge collaborative ties with the media in the promotion of accountability, transparency and equity. Reporters from Surigao del Norte media outfits; the Chamber of Mines Caraga and the Caraga Mine Safety and Health Council participated in the press conference.
