MGB RXIII joins DENR Caraga’s Environment Month and Philippine Eagle’s...

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII is one with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Caraga Regional Office in the celebrations of the Environment Month and Philippine Eagle’s Week during the Kick-off Activity on June 4, 2018 in Butuan City. The theme of the 2018 Environment Month is Beat Plastic Pollution: If you can’t reuse it, refuse it while the theme of the Philippine Eagle’s Week is Ipagdiwang ang Pagkakaisa para sa Malayang Agila.  The Environment Month Celebration covers the period of June 1-30, 2018 while the Philippine Eagle’s Week Celebration is from June 4-10, 2018. MGBEA holds Employees Performance Management, Welfare and Development Work...

In its continuing effort to strengthen its commitment to provide assistance and protect the welfare of its members pursuant to the 2017 MGBEA-MGB Collective Negotiations Agreement, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Employees’ Association held the Employees Performance Management, Welfare and Development Workshop on May 28 to June 1, 2018 at Brentwood Suites in Quezon City with the theme “Sa Malusog at Maunlad na Kawani, Epektibong Serbisyo Publiko ay Madali” in conjunction with the 16th Annual National MGBEA Convention.  At the event, two Resource Speakers from the Civil Service Commission presented the Study on the Implementation of the Economic and Non-Economic Benefits in the Collective Negotiation Agreement and Public Sector Unionism. The implementation of the Three (3) Year Strategic Plan of the 2017-2020 MGBEA-MGB Collective Negotiations Agreement was discussed during the plenary. Rep. Ciriaco “Acoy” S. MGB RXIII and CREDO capacitate Community Relations Officers of Caraga mine...

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII, in cooperation with the Community Relations, Education and Development Officers Organization (CREDO) Caraga, Inc., conducted the two-day SDMP Capacity Enhancement Seminar for the Community Relations Officers in Caraga on May 30 to 31, 2018 at the Philippine Gateway Hotel in Surigao City. Community Relations Officers and community organizers of mining companies and processing plants, together with the Social Development Section personnel of MGB RXIII, actively took part in the activity.  The training was facilitated by Dr. Rolando Cuaño and Ms. Marita Cuaño of BMP Environment and Community Care, Inc. in response to the program of Regional Director Roger A. De Dios to capacitate the Social Development and Management Program workforce of mining companies and processing plants together with the Mines and Geosciences Bureau as the regulatory agency. MGB RXIII chemists rise to the challenges of 33rd Philippine Chemistry Con...

Rising to Challenges (RCh) is the theme of the 33rd Philippine Chemistry Congress which was held on May 30-June 1, 2018 at the Philippine International Convention Center in Roxas Boulevard, Manila. The theme is not only a fitting abbreviation for registered chemists (RCh) but it intrinsically expresses the spirit of the present-day chemistry community that uses chemistry as a key to unlock the solutions to many challenges. Two chemists from the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII joined over a thousand professionals, participants, researchers and paper presenters from the chemical industry and the academe as well as policymakers and leaders from government partner institutions in the annual gathering of chemists which has been in existence for thirty-three years. Esteemed guest speakers highlighted the topics on chemical security, efficient regulation of chemicals of concern, laboratory accreditation, environmental chemical regulations, water analysis and the chemicals weapons convention. MGB RXIII conducts GAD Forum on RA 7877

In keeping with the GAD Program and Initiatives of the National Government, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII conducted the Forum on Anti-Sexual Harassment Act of 1995 on May 8, 2018 at the MGB RXIII Training Center in Surigao City. The MGB RXIII Gender and Development Focal Point System organized the said in-house forum which was attended by the employees. Ms. Florian T. Trinidad, Provincial GAD Focal Person and Officer-in-Charge of Provincial Center for Women’s Training and Development of Surigao del Norte, took part in the forum as the Resource Speaker. She gave a comprehensive presentation on the Anti-Sexual Harassment Act of 1995. Ms. Trinidad has been in government service for 20 years. MGB RXIII carries out Groundwater Resource Mapping and Assessment on Siargao Islands

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII carried out the Groundwater Resource Mapping and Assessment in the Municipalities of General Luna and San Benito, Siargao Islands, Province of Surigao del Norte on April 18 to May 5, 2018. The said assessment was conducted by a team of geologists, cartographer and on-the-job trainees from Negros Oriental State University. The activity aims to establish the geology of the area and determine the general groundwater resource potential of the different lithologic units. It also aims to assess the vulnerability factors that could affect the water quality of the existing water supply sources in the study area and to identify possible areas for development and future extraction. MGB RXIII conducts Vulnerability and Risk Assessment in Surigao del Sur

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII conducted the Vulnerability and Risk Assessment (VRA) on April 16 to 30, 2018 in the Municipalities of Marihatag, Cagwait and Bayabas, Province of Surigao del Sur. The said assessment was conducted by a team of geologists and an on-the-job trainee from Negros Oriental State University. The team formed two groups that were assigned in every barangay to perform geotagging in order to tag the essential landmarks such as barangay halls, health centers, schools, multi-purpose buildings, purok centers and other establishments per purok, district or sitio in all barangays of the aforementioned municipalities. The purpose of tagging landmarks or establishments is to get their exact global positioning system (GPS) coordinates and plot them on the map. MGB RXIII-Dinagat Satellite Office takes part in Earth Day Coastal Clean-up

In keeping with the 2018 Earth Day Celebration, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. Xlll-Dinagat Satellite Office took part in a coastal clean-up on April 20, 2018 at Santa Cruz in the Municipality of San Jose, Province of Dinagat Islands. With the theme “End Plastic Pollution,” the said activity was spearheaded by the Provincial Government of Dinagat Islands through the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources (PENRO-LGU) in partnership with local and national agencies as well as concerned civil society organizations. The MGB RXIII-Dinagat Satellite Office personnel, headed at that time by Engr. Brenice Ann M. Gendeve-Castillo as the Officer-in-Charge, participated in the activity which commenced at 6:00 A.M. during low tide in Santa Cruz as their assigned area. MGB conducts Training Course on Measurement and Internal Quality Control in the Analytical Laboratory

The Lands Geological Survey Division of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Central Office conducted a Training Course on Measurement of Uncertainty and Internal Quality Control in the Analytical Laboratory with the theme “Enhancing Capabilities and Bridging Gaps Towards Effective Laboratory Performance” on April 10-14, 2018 at the Greenhills Elan Hotel in San Juan, Metro Manila. The said activity was participated by representatives from the Lands Geological Survey Division and Metallurgical Technology Division of MGB Central Office as well as Regional Offices with Analytical Laboratory including Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), MGB Calabarzon, Regions V, VII and XIII. MGB RXIII conducts Training on the Principles and Applications of Remote Sensing and GIS

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII, in coordination with Caraga Mine Environmental Management Council (CMEMC) through Caraga State University-College of Engineering and Information Technology (CSU-CEIT) professors, conducted a five-day Training on the Principles and Applications of Remote Sensing and Geographical Information System (GIS) on March 12-16, 2018 at Hotel Oazis, Butuan City. This was participated by staff from Mine Environmental Protection and Enhancement Office (MEPEO) and Engineering Office of all Caraga mining companies and selected MGB RXIII technical staff. The training objectives were to realistically come up with National Greening Program and Mining Forest Program spatial data, based on the 2012 National Greening Program standard requirement, that will eventually be reflected in the mobile application Environmentor and to generate a spatial data not just on rehabilitated areas but also disturbed areas in compliance with the Sustainable Integrated Area Development (SIAD) requirements.
