The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII has gained recognition as one of the Most Outstanding Accounting Offices for Calendar Year 2023.
The awards were presented on the first day of the Association of Government Accountants of the Philippines (AGAP) Annual Convention on October 9 to 12, 2024 at the IEC Convention Center in Cebu City.
Ms. Margie Ann E. Abulencia, Finance Section Chief/ Accountant III, represented the MGB Regional Office No. XIII at the ceremony. Notably, this is the second time that the Bureau has received the said award, with the first recognition presented in CY 2017. The award is an affirmation of the Bureau’s commitment to excellence in financial management comprising financial integrity, transparency, and effective budget utilization, significantly contributing to the government’s overall accountability framework. In the same way, the award not only honors the Bureau but also sets a standard for excellence in public service, inspiring other government offices to pursue high levels of accountability and performance.
During the ceremony, the Assistant Commissioner of Commission on Audit (COA), Atty. Roy L. Ursal, delivered a formal congratulatory message on behalf of COA Chairperson Gamaliel A. Cordoba, highlighting the significance of recognizing outstanding government accounting offices.
The AGAP Annual Convention is a significant event that recognizes government offices demonstrating outstanding performance in accounting. This year, a total of seventy-four (74) accounting offices were recognized for their commitment to high standards of accountability, with MGB Regional Office No. XIII as one of the twenty-five (25) awardees under the National Government Agencies category.
The awards were distributed across various categories as follows: Platinum Award (1), Hall of Famers (8), National Government Agencies (25), Local Government Units (31), Government Owned and Controlled Corporations (4) and Vying for Platinum (5).
The selection of awardees was based on the following criteria: Timeliness of Submission of Financial Reports, Reliability of Financial Reports, Accuracy and Completeness of Financial Reports, Unqualified Audit Opinions and Budget Utilization/Performance. Awardees were presented with plaques and certificates of appreciation, acknowledging their exceptional contributions to financial management.
