The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII attended the Communication Planning Workshop for Eastern Mindanao Biodiversity Corridor on May 14 to 15, 2024 at the Butuan Grand Palace Hotel in Butuan City.

Aimed at strengthening the effective implementation of the Integrated Approach in the Management of Major Biodiversity Corridors in the Philippines (Biodiversity Corridor Project), the activity was organized by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources through the Eastern Mindanao Biodiversity Corridor Project Management Unit in cooperation with the Center for Environmental Law and Policy Advocacy, Inc.

The Regional Strategic Communication and Initiatives Group personnel; representatives from Local Government Units, Department of Trade and Industry, National Commission on Indigenous Peoples, Mindanao Development Authority and mining companies; students from Caraga State University; and  designated Information Officers of CENROs, PENROs and Protected Areas attended the activity.

Reflective of the DENR’s thrust on biodiversity conservation, the Communication Plans were crafted during the workshop which ultimately seeks inclusion and ownership among the project stakeholders.

The Biodiversity Corridor Project seeks to operationalize the integrated management of biodiversity corridors on the effective conservation of globally threatened species and high conservation value forests, reduction of deforestation and degradation, and enhancement of biodiversity-friendly local livelihoods. It is implemented in Region 4B (Oriental and Occidental Mindoro), Region 11 (Davao de Oro and Davao Oriental), and Region 13 (Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte and Surigao del Sur).
