The Provincial Mining Regulatory Board (PMRB) of the Province of Dinagat Islands (PDI) has facilitated the signing of the Small-Scale Mining Contract (SSMC) of Tubajon Small Miners Association Incorporated (TSMAI) on March 21, 2022 at the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII in Surigao City. Present during the signing of the SSMC are MGB Caraga Regional Director and Chairman of the PMRB of PDI, Engr. Larry M. Heradez; President of TSMAI, Mr. Rico M. The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Regional Office (RO) No. XIII welcomed the issuance of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Administrative Order (DAO) No. 2022-03 dated March 14, 2022 in re: “Revised Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of the Republic Act (RA) No. 7076, otherwise known as the People’s Small-Scale Mining Act of 1991” which effectively repeals DAO No. 2015-03, the previously revised IRR of RA No. 7076. Aiming towards a more effective and expeditious implementation of the People’s Small-Scale Mining Act, DAO No. 2022-03 provides for a more detailed and organized procedural guidelines on the registration and licensing of small-scale miners, as well as the declaration of Minahang Bayan, establishment of Mineral Processing Zones and application for Small-Scale Mining Contracts and Mineral Processing License. The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII took part in the 2022 Virtual Geoscience Workshop from February 7 to 11, 2022 via Microsoft Teams. Mining firms within and outside Caraga Region and the Mines and Geosciences Bureau came together to give relief assistance to victims of Super Typhoon Odette in the Provinces of Surigao del Norte and Dinagat Islands. Scores of affected communities have reaped benefits from the relief efforts and other means of support of the Caraga mining firms and other mining firms from other regions. The much-needed assistance came in the forms of financial aid, food supplies (rice, assorted canned goods and grocery items) and packs, mineral/purified water, mosquito nets, waterproof canvas (trapal) and construction materials (GI sheets and other supplies).
