(CMEMCI), spearheaded the Culmination Program of the 2022 Philippine Environment Month Celebration of the Caraga minerals industry on June 30, 2022 in Surigao City. The theme of this year’s Environment Month Celebration is Aksyon para sa Natatanging Mundo. It underscores the promotion of environmental sustainability highlighting the need to live sustainably in harmony with nature by bringing transformative changes towards cleaner and greener lifestyles. The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII participated in the Regional Solid Waste Management Advocacy Campaign Launch on June 15, 2022 at the Robinsons Place Atrium in Butuan City. The activity was spearheaded by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Caraga Regional Office through its Regional Strategic Communication and Initiatives Group (RSCIG), in partnership with the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) Caraga Regional Office. At the program, “Pinas: The Basura Buster (PBB)” and the “Basura Buster” gaming application were introduced to the public. PBB is the DENR’s solid waste management advocacy campaign mascot which will enlist the help of the youth. Similarly, the gaming application is an online tool that will teach the children proper waste segregation in a fun way. It can be downloaded from the Google Play Store for free. The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII held the Launch of the MGB Kids for the Environment on June 11, 2022 at the MGB Regional Office No. XIII Training Center in Surigao City. Attended by the children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews of MGB Regional Office No. XIII employees, the said launch started with the Welcome Remarks of Regional Director Larry M. Heradez. It was then followed by the presentation on The Benefits of Trees given by For. Enjie G. Pacillos-Cañete, Senior Environmental Management Specialist. After the presentation, For. Pacillos-Cañete taught the children how to plant. The children then planted their own ornamentals in pots which they took home after the activity. They also signed the Pledge of Commitment in which they committed to plant more trees and tend them with dedication and constancy in support of environmental preservation. In keeping with the Philippine Environment Month Celebration, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII, the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office of Surigao del Norte and the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office of Tubod took part in the Simultaneous National Tree Planting Activity on June 8, 2022 at the Provincial Tree Park in Brgy. The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office of Surigao del Norte and the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII, in cooperation with the Caraga Mine Environmental Management Council, Inc., kicked off the 2022 Environment Month Celebration with a caravan and a short program on June 1 in Surigao City. The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII participated in the Training Workshop on the Fundamentals of Environmental Sampling and Field Survey Management on May 4 to 6 and 10 to 11, 2022 via Microsoft Teams. Technical personnel from the Geosciences Division and Mine Safety, Environment and Social Development Division of the MGB Central Office and Regional Offices took part in the five-day virtual training-workshop. Similarly, technical personnel from the Metallurgical Technology Division of the MGB Central Office also attended the activity which was organized by the Lands Geological Survey Division of the MGB Central Office. The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII attended the first-ever Mining Caravan on April 6, 2022 in the Municipality of Claver, Province of Surigao del Norte. Primarily aimed at showcasing the contributions of the mining companies and mineral processing plant operating in Claver, the caravan marked the start of the mining season.
