MGB conducts Training and Capability Building for Economists and Information Officers

           The Mines and Geosciences Bureau conducted a Training and Capability Building for MGB Personnel Responsible for Statistical Data and Analysis and Information Dissemination on October 24 to 28, 2022 at the Swiss-Belhotel Blulane in Sta. Cruz, Metro Manila.            Carried out through a hybrid platform (combined face-to-face and virtual modes), the activity was spearheaded by the Mineral Economics, Information and Publication Division (MEIPD) of the MGB Central Office and attended by Economists and Information Officers of MGB Central Office and Regional Offices.            On the first day of the training, Ms. Ruth Caro, a representative of Microsoft, Inc., gave a presentation on the software application, Microsoft Power BI and a demonstration of its use.  The said software application is one of the different Microsoft Power Platforms which provides for a data and analytics reporting tool that helps organizations bring together disparate data sets into reporting dashboards. 6th Caraga Mining Symposium and Safety Competition: An affirmation of resilience amidst uncertainties

The 6th Caraga Mining Symposium and Safety Competition was held on October 6 to 7, 2020. With the theme “Caraga Mining Industry:  Moving Forward Responsibly and Taking the Challenges”, the event was spearheaded by Chamber of Mines of Caraga Region, Inc. in partnership with the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII, Caraga Mine Safety and Health Council, Community Relations, Education & Development Officers Organization Caraga, Inc., Caraga Mine Environmental Management Council, Inc. and Philippine Society of Mining Engineers-Caraga Chapter. MGB ROXIII receives recognition at the 2022 MGB Annual Technical Forum

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII received recognition at the 2022 MGB Annual Technical Forum held on September 28 to 30, 2022 at the Marco Polo Plaza Hotel in Cebu City. With the theme #MineResponsibility: Reinventing Geosciences and Minerals Industry towards Sustainable Development, the forum showcased and fostered the technical and intellectual capabilities of MGB employees in the field of research and development.  It is an avenue for mining practitioners and researchers to exchange learnings and innovations for the sustained advancement of mineral resources and geoscience development. MGB ROXIII attends 6th Provincial Business Conference of Dinagat Islands

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII attended the 6th Provincial Business Conference of Dinagat Islands on September 13 to 14, 2022 at the Macaldo Function Hall in Brgy. Justiniana Edera, Municipality of San Jose, Province of Dinagat Islands. With the theme One Dinagat, One MSMEs: Inspire. Integrate. Innovate., the event aimed to ensure proper development of businesses in the province. MGB ROXIII takes part in 31st Mindanao Business Conference

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII took part in the 31st Mindanao Business Conference which commenced on August 31 and culminated on September 2, 2022 at the Northeastern Mindanao University Stadium in Tandag City, Surigao del Sur. The theme of this year’s conference is ONE MINDANAO: BIGGER. BETTER. BOLDER.  Spearheaded by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in partnership with the Tandag Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc., City Government of Tandag and the Provincial Government of Surigao del Sur, the conference aimed to discuss the development of the immense potential and vast resources of Mindanao among business leaders, industry movers, policy experts, enterprising game changers and various stakeholders. MGB ROXIII embarks on Real-time Monitoring of Mining Operations in Caraga Region

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII embarked on the Real-time Monitoring of Mining Operations in Caraga Region using Closed-Circuit Television pursuant to Section 6 of Department Administrated Order No. 2021-25, the Implementing Rules and Regulation of Executive Order No. 130 Entitled: Amending Section 4 of Executive Order No. 79, S. 2012, Institutionalizing and Implementing Reforms in the Philippine Mining Section, Providing Policies and Guidelines to Ensure Environmental Protection and Responsible Mining in the Utilization of Mineral Resources.   Aimed at augmenting the actual fieldwork in virtually monitoring the mining areas (causeway, settling/detention ponds, stockyard/mine yard, motor pool area, and air, water, and noise monitoring stations), the project will ensure the protection of environment in a technical and scientific manner. MGB ROXIII conducts Mining Forest Program Reorientation and Seminar-Workshop

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII conducted the Mining Forest Program Reorientation and Seminar-Workshop on July 13 to 14, 2022 at the MGB Regional Office No. XIII Training Center in Surigao City. The two-day activity aimed to unify understanding of the statutory foundation and reportorial submissions relative to various reforestation programs in compliance with Mining Forest Program (MFP), National Greening Program (NGP), Special Tree Cutting and/or Earth-Balling Permit (STCEBP) and other related matters. MGB ROXIII attends Trainings on Cybersecurity Competency Framework and Data Privacy Protection

In an effort to improve its services to the public, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII attended the Trainings on Cybersecurity Competency Framework and Data Privacy Protection on August 8 to 12, 2022 via Google Meet and Zoom Platforms. Aimed at harnessing the competitiveness of the government workforce towards an ICT-enabled society, the said trainings were conducted by the Department of Information and Communications Technology through its ICT Literacy and Competency Development Bureau. This endeavor reaffirms the MGB Regional Office No. XIII’s commitment to integrate information technology to its frontline services and other key processes. While information systems are vital tools for moving forward, the Bureau is also mindful of cybersecurity risks and vulnerabilities involved. The Cybersecurity Competency Framework will prepare the Bureau not only for efficient response to threats but also in securing its Information Technology assets. MGB ROXIII records decrease in issued OTP and MOEP for the 1st semester of CY 2022

As of June 30, 2022, the issuance of Ore Transport Permit (OTP) and Mineral Ore Export Permit (MOEP) posted a 21.92% and 26.69% decline or equivalent to 235 and 195 released permits, from last year’s 301 and 266, respectively. The decrease in number of OTP/MOEP issuance of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII for the first semester of CY 2022 was affected when the mining companies lowered their monthly target of OTP/MOEP application due to unfavorable weather condition and lethargic market, particularly manifested by export of nickel ore per shipment-related documents received by this Office. OTP and MOEP issuance dropped down for the first quarter of CY 2022 despite the high metal price during the period. MGB ROXIII conducts very first MGB Caraga Stakeholders’ Engagement of Dinagat Islands

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII conducted the very first MGB Caraga Stakeholders’ Engagement of Dinagat Islands on July 11 to 15, 2022 at the Vine’s Bed and Breakfast in San Jose, Province of Dinagat Islands.  Spearheaded by Regional Director Larry M. Heradez, together with Division Chiefs, Section Chiefs and other key personnel of MGB Regional Office No. XIII, the activity served as a venue for dialogue with local government units, mining companies and small-scale miners wherein the said stakeholders presented their respective updates, issues and concerns.  On a special note, DENR Assistant Secretary for Finance, Information Systems and Mining Concerns, Engr.
