The Mines and Geosciences Bureau held the Geoscience Workshop 2024 on February 26 to March 1, 2024 at Ardenhills Suites in Quezon City. The theme of this year’s workshop is Taking on the Challenges of Innovation for the Advancement of MGB’s Geoscience Programs. Carried out through a hybrid platform (combined face-to-face and virtual modes), the workshop was spearheaded by the Lands Geological Survey Division. It served as a venue for the comprehensive discussion of accomplishments, projects and road map of various geoscience programs and was attended by geologists from the MGB Central Office and Regional Offices. Several Caraga mining companies have mobilized their Emergency Response Teams (ERTs) to respond to the landslide incident that occurred in the evening of February 6, 2024, at Zone 1, Barangay Masara, Municipality of Maco, Province of Davao de Oro. On February 7, 2024, Mines and Geosciences Bureau Caraga Regional Director Larry M. Heradez sent a Letter addressed to the Resident Mine Managers through the Safety Managers of the Caraga mining companies encouraging them to provide support and show compassion to those affected by the unfortunate incident. In response, a number of mining companies prepared their respective ERTs to be deployed to the incident area. The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII distributed the Certificates of Approval for 2024 Safety and Health Program of the Caraga minerals industry during the first regular meeting of the year of the Caraga Mine Safety and Health Council (CMSHC) on January 27, 2024 at the MGB Regional Office No. XIII Training Center in Surigao City. The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII conducted an Information, Education and Communication (IEC) Campaign on Vulnerability and Risk Assessment (VRA) to four (4) municipalities in the Province of Surigao del Norte on October 24 to 27, 2023. The recipient municipalities of the four-day IEC-VRA campaign were Tubod, Placer, Malimono, and San Francisco. The objective of the IEC-VRA campaign is to provide additional technical information on Risk Exposure to the Local Government Units (LGUs) for risk-sensitive land-use, development, and disaster risk reduction and management plans and programs. The said IEC-VRA campaigns were attended by the Municipal Disaster and Risk Reduction and Management (MDRRM) Council of the LGUs headed by their respective Municipal Mayors who were represented during the activity by the MDRRM Officer and the Municipal Planning and Development Officer.
