The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII attended the Communication Planning Workshop for Eastern Mindanao Biodiversity Corridor on May 14 to 15, 2024 at the Butuan Grand Palace Hotel in Butuan City. Aimed at strengthening the effective implementation of the Integrated Approach in the Management of Major Biodiversity Corridors in the Philippines (Biodiversity Corridor Project), the activity was organized by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources through the Eastern Mindanao Biodiversity Corridor Project Management Unit in cooperation with the Center for Environmental Law and Policy Advocacy, Inc. The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII supported the launch of the Doing Business in Surigao del Norte brochure on May 7, 2024 at the Philippine Gateway Hotel in Surigao City. Spearheaded by the Provincial Government of Surigao del Norte, the said launch is a milestone for the province as its potential as a premier investment destination is unveiled through the brochure which was crafted in collaboration with SyCip Gorres Velayo & Co. A comprehensive resource for potential investors, the brochure highlights the diverse investment opportunities offered by various industries in the province. At the event, SGV & Co. The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII participated in the Mindanao Communicators Network Regional Congress (Caraga Leg) on April 29 to 30, 2024 at VCDU Prince Hotel in Butuan City. Organized by the Mindanao Development Authority and the Philippine Information Agency Caraga, the said event aimed at reviving the Mindanao Communicators Network, a group of Information Officers and Public Relations Practitioners pursuing strategic communication exchanges and advocacy of various Mindanao imperatives. Moreover, the event served as an avenue wherein issues and topics of national relevance were tackled. The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII, in cooperation with the MGB Employees Association Region XIII Chapter and the MGB-RXIII Employees Multi-Purpose Cooperative, held the MGB Children Summer Learning Event on April 13, 2024 at the MGB Training Center in Surigao City. Attended by the children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews of the employees, the event served as a venue where the children learned about geology, cultivated friendships and experienced camaraderie. The fun-filled event started with the Welcome Remarks of Regional Director Larry M. Heradez. It was then followed by a Learning Session on Rocks and Minerals presented by Mr. Beda Louie O. In keeping with the 2024 Earth Day Celebration, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII, in collaboration with the Caraga minerals industry, has launched the PLASTIKalikasan: Mining Communities Clean-up Program on April 22, 2024. The theme of this year’s celebration is Planet vs. Plastics. The clean-up program shall serve as a long-term clean-up program for the minerals industry to minimize the generation of plastic waste in mine sites as well as in the host and neighboring communities. At the MGB Regional Office in Surigao City, the personnel gathered early in the morning, ready for the initial launch of the PLASTIKalikasan Program and clean-up activity. In keeping with the vision and mission of advancing premier high school Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education, the Philippine Science High School-Caraga Region Campus went on an education field trip to the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII on April 1, 2024 in Surigao City. The said field trip for the class Biology 4 (Critical Environment and Health Critical Issues) aimed to familiarize the students with the principles of sustainable mining, environmental impact assessments, and community engagement strategies employed within the minerals industry. During the field trip, the students took part in learning sessions on Geology and Mineral Resources of Caraga Region, Caraga Minerals Industry and Safety and Health, Environment and Social Impacts and the Mitigating Strategies of the Mining Industry given by the MGB technical personnel. The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII conducted an Information, Education and Communication (IEC) Campaign on Vulnerability and Risk Assessment (VRA) and Small-Scale Mining Orientation and Training on Occupational Safety and Health on March 12, 2024 at CN Inland Resort in Rosario, Agusan del Sur. The goal of the IEC-VRA campaign is to provide the Small-Scale Miners and the Municipal Local Government Unit with supplementary technical details concerning Risk Exposure. This information aims to support the development of risk-sensitive land-use, development, and disaster risk reduction and management plans and programs. The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII and the Provincial Government of Agusan del Sur conducted the Ceremonial Acceptance and Signing of the Declaration of Minahang Bayan of Barangay Sta. Cruz Small-Scale Mining Association of Rosario Agusan Del Sur (BSCSSMARADS) on March 12, 2024 at CN Inland Resort in Rosario, Agusan del Sur. The BSCSSMARADS has been officially declared as a People’s Small-Scale Mining Area or Minahang Bayan, covering a total area of 40 hectares, through the Provincial Mining Regulatory Board Resolution (PMRB) No. 18 Series of 2024.
